De inmiddels 50-jarige pianist Ethan Iverson is bekend als oprichter van avant-garde jazz trio The Bad Plus. Nadat hij het trio in 2017 verliet, maakte hij een album met tenorsaxofonist Mark Turner voor ECM en werd hij getekend door Blue Note records. Het nu verschenen Technically Acceptable is zijn tweede voor dat label, waarbij hij twee verschillende trio’s leidt; bas- en drum tandem Thomas Morgan/Kush Abadey en Simón Willson/Vinnie Sperrazza. Veel nieuw eigen werk én sterke interpretaties van Roberta Flack’s Killing Me Softly en `Round Midnight van Thelonious Monk. (Erik Damen)
